A Day in the Life of CORIL

Have you ever met a person with sparkling and expressive eyes that talk?  Whose soul is so transparent and so vulnerable that their very presence lights up your day?

Such is a part of the daily life at CORIL.  This amazing organization's mission is to celebrate all the wonderful achievements that people with disabilities experience in their lives each and every day when they are given the right opportunities and support.

CORIL's vision of building independence, productivity and full inclusion for all people with disabilities, whether cognitive or physical is only the first doorway of introduction to a very special culture of opportunity and a strong circle of community support.

CORIL believes that we are all more alike than different and that while we are all "differently-abled," each of us possessing within ourselves very special and unique gifts.  When these gifts are discovered and given opportunity for full expression it strengthens each and every one of us with renewed hope and a greater understanding of what it means to live life to the fullest and with purpose.

We want to invite you to step into the world of CORIL for a brief tour you will net ever forget and yes, it just may change the perspective on your day, if not your life. What will you see, experience and feel?

You will see people with disabilities excited to live life and to give back.

You will witness all the great work our participants do for local businesses in our community that will most likely astonish you.

You will be thoroughly impacted as to the breadth and scope of their talent and strong desire to be the best they can be each and every day, in spite of great challenges.

You will see people with disabilities committed to learning and helping one another grow, of reaching out in very special ways that will forever touch you life and mine.

The Story of CORIL is partially embodied in a Native American Philosophy called the "Circle of Courage."

The four points of the circle encompass the four values of Belonging, Achievement, Independence and Generosity.

At CORIL people live out their universal longing for human bonds that nurture trusting relationships. A person can say, "I am loved."

We believe that everyone has an inborn thirst for learning and achievement that builds on the strengths and potential of each individual. A person can say, "I can succeed."

People need to believe and feel that they can have a measure of control and influence over their lives that is shared through mutual responsibility and accountability. A person can say, "I am in charge of my life."

The circle is completed through opportunities for social responsibility and concern for others, expressed by acts of kindness and generosity. A person can say, "I have purpose for my life."

Some of our best teachers in life are those that we may not take full notice of until our lives intersect, sometimes through unexpected events, special circumstances and yes, even through illness, injury or tragedy.

We are not always able to predict the events and challenges that our lives present. The participants at CORIL teach us every day through their expressions, words and deeds how best to respond to all of what life has to offer.

They seek to live their lives to the fullest looking both to themselves and to others to help them fully realize their goals, dreams while also giving back to others.

CORIL provides that bridge that offers opportunity for lives to be changed and even saved; not necessarily from circumstances but from feeling left out, disconnected, lost and without hope.

But there is more to this story. While CORIL provides opportunity to those we have the privilege of serving for a changed and renewed life, we also offer that same opportunity to you. For you see, CORIL is all of us. "Say Yes!" with CORIL to the best we can offer life - Let CORIL change you and be proud to say, "I too AM CORIL."

Enjoy the tour of our website and consider your participation in one or more of our initiatives on behalf of the wonderful people we serve!
