Advocacy
Advocacy falls into two separate categories: "Individual" and "Systems". Often the two categories meld into one another.
Individual Advocacy
Individual Advocacy involves those instances where one or more of our Staff works on an individual's behalf. This means that we may accompany individuals to appointments with medical or rehabilitation professionals, the Social Security Administration, or other service providers. We are there to help people understand the information being provided and to assist individuals in making informed decisions.
System Advocacy
There are situations that occur that may demand not only individual, but Systems Advocacy. This is where a situation arises within the system of human services that is perceived as preventing people with disabilities from receiving the benefits for which they are entitled. While you may be the catalyst, Systems Advocacy is a major part of CORIL's services to people with disabilities. We have a long and well-established relationship with Oregon Legislators.
Systems Advocacy also involves Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) matters. The ADA confers not special rights, but equal rights under the law. Please refer to the link below to the Oregon Advocacy Center for more detail on the ADA.
